Medieval Pilgrims – A Window on their World

The roads of medieval Britain were thronged with pilgrims on their way to the shrines of the saints. Why did they go, and what did they hope for? Ask those questions, and you’ll be led into every corner of medieval life – travel, buildings, politics, religion, you name it and pilgrimage has a bearing on it! My talk will examine the urge to be a pilgrim, and show something of what’s left – shrines, statues, stained glass, churches, routes, gorgeous landscapes and much more.
