A Pilgrimage to Medieval Gloucestershire

Here was a classic pilgrimage landscape, with saints and shrines to suit every taste! One could shed a tear for Kenelm, the boy martyr of Mercia, feel awestruck by the authentic Blood of Christ at Hailes Abbey, or share a nation’s guilt before the tomb of murdered Edward II. But one could also discover the more obscure holy places – sacred springs, ancient roads, and echoes of cults from before Christ.
